Since 1999 SMA has been delivering multi-voltage auxiliary power supply systems for railway coaches based on the MEE-NT platform, the system to succeed the proven MEE3000 system. More than 300 vehicles have been equipped with MEE-NTLD multi-voltage auxiliary power supplies since then. Vehicles with an MEE-NTLD converter are approved in almost all European countries and are characterized by their high reliability.
The auxiliary power supply for CORADIA LIREXTM for Storstockholm Lokaltrafik (SL) belongs to SMA's product family MEE-NTSD (SD = Short Distance) for regional trains and is based on the MEE-NT platform. SMA has thus an innovative and sophisticated modular platform proven in daily use for auxiliary power supplies in different applications.
Since 1988, SMA has been delivering battery chargers (or DC voltage supply units) for rolling stock. More than 2,000 battery chargers are used in daily revenue service in different kinds of railway vehicles. They are available for all usual input voltages, battery types and power ranges. SMA provides auxiliary power supplies for the redundant board supply and independently controllable air conditioning for the tram-trains of RegioTram Kassel. The tram-trains designed as two-system and hybrid vehicles are manufactured by ALSTOM LHB in Salzgitter and belong to the family of regional light rail vehicles RegioCITADIS™.
SMA delivers three-phase inverters that are integrated into the air conditioning system and based on the MEE-NT platform to power the air conditioning for the passenger compartments of the Combino Plus tram. At the beginning of 2008, all 40 Combinos of the Budapest public transportation authority (BKV) were retrofitted with air conditioning systems including SMA inverters.
SMA provides converters based on the MEE-NTSD platform of auxiliary power supplies for the climate control of passenger compartment and driver's cab. The converters are integrated into the air conditioning units. Two ET420 prototype DB AG commuter trains for greater Stuttgart, Germany, were refurbished and tested in the DB AG's workshop in Krefeld, Germany, in 2005.
