The SMARTcharger is a battery charger that converts the input voltage into the DC output voltage required for the car battery. It is available for all standard input voltages, battery systems and performance classes as standard and characterized by its compact design and reliability.

The SMARTcharger is in service in European high-speed trains, among others. For instance, Alstom Transport has ordered SMA battery charger systems for the high-speed train AGV. The vehicles are delivered to the Italian operator of long-distance passenger rail transport NTV (Nuivo Trasporto Viaggiatori). A total of 100 devices will be delivered to Alstom by 2013.
