The Spanish manufacturer of railway vehicles CAF has chosen SMA for the supply of 192 auxiliary power converters for the new trains of the Metro Caracas in Venezuela. The auxiliary power converters are based on the approved systems for São Paulo and Kaohsiung. They are distinguished for their lightweight construction, a new container concept and the modular design. The systems transform an input voltage of 750 V DC in two output voltages from 72 V DC and 72 V DC, 14 kW und 3 x 220 V / 380 V AC, 60 Hz, 135 kVA / 115 kW. Supplies have started in January 2010 and will be finished in March 2012.
